1969

...I was Grade Five...then grade six...
Nixon, Arafat, ghadaffi, come to power. People's Park and the anti-war movement vs Gov Reagan and the National Guard. Vietnam War and the draft lottery comes to a peak. Sirhan Sirhan and James Earl Jones are guilty. Manson Family and the Zodiac killer are a media thriller. The Jets and the Mets are champions. Woodstock and Altimont are a hit, 2 years after the Summer of Love. Apollo lands man on the moon. The 747 and Concord have their first flights. Popular are John and Yoko, Led Zep, The Godfather in print, and the Midnight Cowboy in film. Also Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, True Grit, Easy Rider, Love Bug, and Hello Dolly.. The birth of the Internet [ARAPANET], WalMart, Monty Python, and Sesame Street. Gomer, Peyton Place, the Avengers, and Star Trek is cancelled [boo hoo], replaced by Brady Bunch, Love American Style, Tom Jones, and Johnny Cash. Archie, Scooby, and HR Puff'n'Stuff were silly. Monty Python was...well...

$20

Merry Christmas, Happy Winter Solistice, and New Year! Congratulations on recieving the Gift of Gifts! Really, you don't have to thank me :) Knowing that you don't probably wear or remember getting anything worth less than $20, it wasn't easy.

OK, I didn't know who this would go to. BUT it is something I could go for! Think of it as a Wish List inventory of every gift you could have had and some you would have never used.

In the days of high-tech, low connect items, I hope this brings an occasional smile to you, the family, and whoever you play this with. And always remember the Rule of Acquisition 1B "No returns, no exchanges"

Always (except this Sunday)

Stuck in 1973

1973 Oakland, California to be precise! The McChesney-Oakland High hub. Up and down the Park Blvd, bus 18 route; and later, the new East Bay section of the BART line. Most of my FB posts of the past few months have centered around re-remembering those times with a few "old" classmates. I was born and raised in Oakland, have lived "up" Park Blvd 1963 until 1976. Graduated from OHS early [missed all the good stuff of the Fuorth Year]. In the Philippines for college until late 1983. Lost touch with everyone! Only recently re-connected with Clarice, James, Wayne, Claire, Steve [goes back to Glenview], Steve, Andy, Mayumi, Catherine, and Tom.

Oh, I am back at Park Blvd again this year since living on the Fruitvale side of Dimond Park since 1990. My two kids, Angie 24 and Paul 21, went to the same schools I did.

For those I went to school with in the '70s...Anyone else, you just wouldn't understand
Clap for the Wolfman- Guess Who

For all you students and non-conformist out there! You know who you are!
Smokin In The Boys Room- Mötley Crüe, but originally recorded by Brownsville Station in 1973.

- I didn't really go to movies this year. I sooo wanted to watch The Exorcist, but my parents wouldn't let me! I didn't even get to enjoy Jesus Christ Superstar until I was in the Philippines 4 years later!

Earth threatened by Humankind

The following is based on fact, rant, and speculations.

FACTS
Civilization as we know it is about 10,000 years old. We are in an "icehouse" effect that started less than 50 million years ago. Dinosaurs were extinct due to an event 650 million years ago. Solar radiation, Earth's surace temperature, and inorganic carbon dioxide will increase...resulting in the loss of water, oxygen, plant, and animal life in about 900 million years. The earth is more than 4 billion years old. "Life" is an abberation!

RANT
Politicians and some groups are arrogant enough to think anything we do will harm the planet. What carbon doixide and pollutants we put out is nothing compared to what is put out by volcanoes and all animal life that farts and decays. Our garbage landfills will last decades. So what! Radioactives will last for centuries. Again so what? Our overpopulated cities are choking the earth. NOT! After we are all dead and gone, the Earth will still be here! George Carlin had it right. We are only helping other species become extinct a little bit faster. The only species we are doing harm to is our own! And a damn good job of it too!

SPECULATIONS
I believe that there was once life and a thriving civilization on what is now Mars. Earth was seeded before that civilization ended, some one billion years ago. By now all traces of life there have been erased with time. What is left is atmospheric carbon dioxide, surface ice, underground water, and no complex molecules. Much like what the earth will be like, one billion years from now. More than a billion years before that, civilization was on a world where there is now an asteroid belt. Was that world destroyed by artificial means? Who's to say!?! Life may have originated on the moons of Jupiter, where evidence of ice and vulcanism is evident today. Our solar system would have been only a billion years old. According to my theory, we still have time to terraform Venus. It is the hothouse that Earth was, before molecules bonded to become life-sustaining.

The Earth was NOT created in seven days, nor will it be destroyed in a movie theater!
